Ballast Water Management: What You Really Need To Know!
Every year, merchant ships move billions of tonnes of ballast water around the world. When we carry ballast water we also carry bugs and plant life, too. This can spread disease, interfere with nature, clog up waterways, destroy wildlife and wreck economies. In this film, we hear more about these "bio-invaders" and new laws for the shipping industry.
All ships will have to manage ballast water and treat the sediment left when ballast has been discharged. Each voyage must have a Ballast Water Management Officer assigned. Port State Control will want to check the Ballast Water Record Book.
